Overall Highlights

  • GMC Prep began the school year with 855 students
  • 100% graduation rate (all 72 students) for the Class of 2024 – for the 15th year in a row
  • 70 students (99% of the Class) will enroll in a post-secondary institution in Fall 2024 with 1 student enlisting in the United States Army and 1 student going on Mission to South America
  • 62 students (86%) are HOPE Eligible
  • Three Seniors Signed to play college athletics
  • 14 Juniors and Seniors Graduated from Youth Leadership Baldwin
  • Completed Cognia Accreditation process for first time in six years
  • Fine Arts Director LTC Mark Weaver received the National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) Outstanding Theatre Educator for Section 3/South East USA Award by the Georgia High School Association
  • For the 11th consecutive year, the graduating class established a fully endowed “Class of” Scholarship prior to graduation to provide tuition assistance for future Prep School students
  • The “Class of” Endowed Scholarships combined together now total just over $647K.
  • In our Elementary School we celebrated with elementary families at our Grand Christmas and with Veterans at our Veterans Walk-Through Parade
  • We had two elementary teachers receive the Bright Ideas Grant bringing innovation of learning to the classroom

 

New Leadership

  • LTC Rusty Courson was promoted to serve as Athletic Director of the Prep School
  • LTC Courson has served the Prep School for 10 years and his commitment to educational excellence, determined leadership, and professional focus on success will positively impact our athletics
  • LTC Clint Raburn was promoted to serve Assistant Principal for 6th-12th grades for the 2024-25 SY
  • LTC Raburn’s exceptional leadership skills and dedication to educational excellence ensure he will make a significant impact on the school’s academic environment and student success.

 

Firsts for the Prep School

  • We had our first ever Georgia Exchange Club Youth of the Year recipient; this was the first for Georgia Military College Preparatory School and Baldwin County = historical achievement
  • Awarded our first Region STAR Student Winner
  • Awarded the GHSA Ray Horne Award for excellence in Literary and One Act Play
  • Worked as “One Corps” with the Junior College Corps of Cadets to ensure proper inspections at Prep Formation and with inculcating a sense of “The Corps” within all of GMC
  • Awarded Two Congressional District winners for the Stock Market Game for Economics Education
  • Unveiled “Hero”, our ceramic good luck mascot and protector of Davenport Field
  • Governor Kemp attended GMC’s Patriot Day Ceremony as our Guest Speaker
  • Hosted the state’s Junior Thespian Conference and our Middle School Theatre performance of SpongeBob the Musical was chosen as the mainstage show

 

21 State Titles – 4 Team and 17 Individual State Championships

  • Literary Team – Our Literary Team captured their 9th Consecutive GHSA Class A State Championship after winning their 13th consecutive Region Title.
  • Literary Team -- Additionally, 9 Individual state titles were won in the areas of: Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Argumentative Essay, Literary Analysis Essay, Girls Solo, and Girls Trio
  • One Act Play - Our One Act Play cast continued their tradition of excellence by winning the Region Championship. One Act Play also won their 3rd consecutive One Act State Championship with their incredible performance of Once on This Island. Individual state awards included 3 State All Star Cast members
  • Raiders - Our JROTC Mixed Raiders team brought home the 2023 Georgia State Raider Trophy and placed 1st in the Nation.
  • Boys Track - Our Boys track team won an individual state championship in the 3200m, 1600m, and 800m.
  • Girls Track – Our Girls track team won an individual state championship in the 4x800m relay and 800m.
  • Boys Soccer – Our Boys Soccer Team brought home the 2024 Class A, Division II State Championship Trophy

 

Accomplishments All Across Our Extra- Curricular Programs

  • One Act Cast – Region Champions for the 10th time since 2011; One Act Cast – State Champions for the 3rd consecutive year
  • 2023-2024 Top 3 GHSA Team Finishes –Girls Track & Field 3rd place, Boys Track & Field 3rd place, Boys Soccer 1st place, Literary 1st place, and One Act 1st place
  • Performing Arts - Live performances of Once on This Island by our One Act Cast, SpongeBob the Musical by our Middle School Theatre students, Seussical by our Elementary School Theater students, and The Addams Family by our High School Spring Musical Cast, Elementary Recorder Performance
  • Visual Arts - Fall Art Show, Spring Art Show, and contests/events such as Pinwheels for Peace, the Annual Veterans Art Exhibit, the State Capitol Art Show, Elementary Art Shows
  • Marching Band – Our High School Marching Band was awarded eight 1st place, two 2nd place, and two 3rd place recognitions at Band Competitions.
  • Middle School Concert Band – Our Middle School Concert Band earned their 3rd consecutive year of superior ratings at their state Large Group Performance Evaluation
  • High School Wind Ensemble – Our High School Wind Ensemble earned their 3rd consecutive year of superior rating at their state Large Group Performance Evaluation
  • Boys Varsity Teams clinched first place in the GADA Directors Cup Single A Division II for the second year in a row

 

New Opportunities for Students

  • Reinstated our student trip to Washington, D.C. providing the opportunity for students to actively and tangibly learn United States history
  • Reinstated our New York Fine Arts trip providing students the opportunity to see Broadway shows and visit historic landmarks
  • Hosted a Women’s Forum for 9th-12th grade female cadets to hear from female leaders throughout various sectors
  • Hosted the Lutzie 43 Driving Summit for 9th-12th graders to learn about safe and undistracted driving
  • Opened the Center of Leadership creating opportunities for our students to perform in a state-of-the-art theatre where their talents and skills can be showcased and hear renowned speakers
  • Collaborated with Exchange Bank to enhance academic opportunities for our Economics and Financial Algebra classes
  • Over 20 Middle and High School students attended Legislative Session at the State Capitol as PAGEs
  • Two seniors were Semi-Finalists for National Merit Scholars and one was selected as a Finalist
